Brawner, Guajardo, Ridings Honored



Brawner Named ASC Newcomer of the Year

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons freshman volleyball player Jenny Brawner was named American Southwest Conference West Division Newcomer of the Year and HSU head coach Krystal Brodbeck was chosen ASC West Coach of the Year in voting done by the league's head coaches.

Brawner, who led the team in attacks (902), kills (382) and blocks (159) was also named to the ASC Volleyball All-West Division First Team, while senior middle blocker and outside hitter Terri Guajardo was named to the second team. Junior setter Kasey Ridings was named honorable mention All-ASC West.

Guajardo, a four-year starter for the Cowgirls had 308 kills and 371 digs to lead the Cowgirls to an 18-12 overall record. Ridings led the Cowgirls with 921 assists.

Brodbeck, who is in her third season as HSU's head coach, helped the Cowgirls improve their win total by 12 over the 2001 campaign. HSU also finished with a winning record for the first time since 1989.

Texas Lutheran's Abby Glenn was named the league's most valuable player.
