Cowgirls Take Command of ASC Race With Win Over TLU

SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team made a huge stride towards winning the American Southwest Conference's West Division with a five-set win over Texas Lutheran, Friday evening in Seguin by a score of 30-17, 24-30, 31-29, 28-30, 15-8.

The Cowgirls, who once again played without two of its top offensive weapons, came up with a win over the team nearest them in the standings and now with just three weeks to play in the season the Cowgirls have the top contending teams behind them on their schedule.

Virginia Aguilar once again led the offensive attack with 16 kills and a .351 attack percentage. Megan Lawrence (13) Amber Montgomery (11) and Hannah Toole (11) all reached double digits in kills in a balanced attack.

Amanda Keithley had 48 assists and 13 dig from her setter position. Melanie Wallace had 19 digs. Ali Childers added 18 digs for the Cowgirls.

HSU hit an amazing .417 in the deciding fifth game. For the match HSU hit .251. Angela Kopecki led the Bulldogs with 18 kills.

The Cowgirls improved to 12-7 with the win, but more importantly are 11-1 in ASC play. TLU fell to 13-5 overall and 13-4 in league play. HSU plays at Schreiner on Saturday.
