Cowgirls Win Both Matches Friday At McMurry Tournament

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor, 30-20, 30-23, 30-23, and Jarvis Christian, 25-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-23, in opening day action Friday at the Kimbrell Arena at McMurry University in Abilene.

Senior outside hitter Terri Guajardo led the team in the UMHB match with 12 kills. Brittoni Reynolds and Jenny Brawner each had nine kills. Brawner also led with 13 digs in her Cowgirl debut. Kasey Ridings, a sophomore setter and outside hitter for the Cowgirls, led the team with 28 assists.

In the final match of the day against Jarvis, Reynolds led the Cowgirls with 15 kills. Guajardo had 13 digs and Ridings led with 44 assists. The team had 11 service aces.

HSU's 2-0 start is the first time since 1986 that the Cowgirls have started 2-0.

HSU returns to action Saturday when they play Southwest Assemblies of God at 10:30 a.m. and then close out the Tournament with a 3:30 p.m. match against McMurry.
