Bingham Named HSU Volleyball Coach

March 9, 2007

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' Director of Athletics John Neese has named Sabrina Bingham as the head coach of the HSU volleyball program, replacing Hugh Hernesman who left for a job at Ball State last month.

Bingham, who played collegiately at the University of Alaska at Anchorage, has a counseling degree from Regent University. She has served as a Counselor at the Abilene Regional Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

"Our administration was impressed with Sabrina's presence when she visited our campus for her interview," said Neese. "She has high expectations for herself and our volleyball program and we look forward to helping her continue the success that our program has recently enjoyed. She set and accomplished many goals during her playing career at the University of Alaska-Anchorage and we expect that she will have that same intensity as the coach of our volleyball team."

Bingham has coached at various clubs and camps and was a varsity coach at Chugiak High School in Alaska and was a middle hitter coach at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, before pursuing her master's.

She was a two-time team MVP for UAA and was also a two-year captain. She was an all-conference selection and a seven-time player of the week in the Pac West Conference. She had 1,102 career kills for UAA.

HSU won its first American Southwest Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time last season.
