SHERMAN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team showed no signs of nervousness in its first ever American Southwest Conference Tournament game, as they won the first two games en route to a 30-25, 30-23, 25-30, 27-30, 15-12 win over East Texas Baptist, Friday evening in Sherman. "We came out and played really well," said second-year head coach Hugh Hernesman. "You never know how the kids respond the first time they are in a situation like this, they are just a bunch of fighters." Junior middle blocker Megan Lawrence came up big with a career-best 10 blocks in the match. She also had 12 kills. The Cowgirls had 17 blocks in the match. Chelsea Buetow led the Cowgirls with 20 kills. Hannah Toole added 13 kills and Taylor McFarland has 12 kills. Holly Amerena efficiently ran the offense with 62 assists. Krystal Ziehe had a career-best 34 digs. The Cowgirls improved to 19-10 on the year and will face Austin College for the ASC title on Saturday at 2 p.m. A win would give the Cowgirls their first ASC title and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. ETBU ends its season at 23-10 on the year. |
