RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team had its run at a second straight American Southwest Conference title fall just short as they lost to Texas Lutheran in an epic 28-30, 30-20, 30-18, 28-30, 17-15 match, Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The Cowgirls took the first game by winning five of the last seven points. In the second and third game Texas Lutheran controlled the play, but HSU rallied in game four to tie the match at 2-2. The fifth game was close throughout and TLU led 10-9 when the Bulldogs pushed the lead to 12-9 and eventually to 14-11, but the feisty Cowgirls rallied with two attack errors by TLU, a ball handling error and an Amanda Mace kill to take the lead at 15-14. After a timeout, TLU then scored the last three points to win the game 17-15 and to win the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. HSU fell to 22-9 on the year and will await the NCAA Committee's selections on Sunday to see if they get into the tournament. If not, it brought the end to the career's of two HSU seniors Chelsea Buetow and Megan Lawrence. Kaela Parnell led the Cowgirls with a match-high 24 kills and Amanda Mace added 17.
