Cowgirls Claim First ASC West Title

LONGVIEW, Texas - Hardin-Simmons split a pair of American Southwest Conference Crossover matches on Saturday to move to 16-2 on the year in conference play and claim their first ever ASC West Division title.

HSU defeated Mississippi College 30-27, 30-17, 30-16 and fell to East Texas Baptist 30-22, 30-24, 28-30, 30-21.

In the win over Mississippi College the Cowgirls used a balanced attack as no one was in double figures in digs, but four players had seven or more and Taylor McFarland had 11 kills to lead the team, with Hannah Toole and Virginia Aguilar adding nine and eight respectively. No Lady Choctaw made it to double figures in kills as they hit .-018 for the match.

In the loss to ETBU, Melanie Wallace led the defense with 20 digs and Aguilar had a team-best 17 kills. Toole added 12 kills and McFarland had 11. Arden Tunnell had 26 kills for ETBU.

The Cowgirls are now 16-2 in conference play and 17-8 overall. HSU will host Tarleton State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
