Oct. 22, 2002 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' Cowgirl volleyball team battled back from a 0-2 deficit for the second straight match, but again was unable to win the fifth game in a heartbreaking 30-24, 30-28, 20-30, 29-31, 15-7 American Southwest Conference loss to McMurry Tuesday night in the Mabee Complex. The Cowgirls looked dead in the water trailing 29-24 in the fourth game, when Maggie Barnhill took over the serve and the Cowgirls dramatically won seven straight points to win out the game. In the fifth game the Indians jumped out early and were aided by three service errors by the Cowgirls. Freshman Jenny Brawner led the Cowgirl attack with 22 kills. Kerra LeBlanc and Terri Guajardo each led the Cowgirl defense with 20 and 19 digs respectively. Danielle Bolin led the Indians with 16 kills. She also led the way with 20 digs. The Cowgirls fell to 14-12 and 8-6 overall with the loss, while the conference-leading Indians improved to 19-5 and 12-2. The Cowgirls hit the road for matches at Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor this weekend. |
