ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team swept through Sul Ross State 30-18, 30-28, 30-22 and moved to 13-1 on the year in American Southwest Conference play, Wednesday night at the Mabee Complex in Abilene. The Cowgirls came out strong and used a strong effort in the first game by freshman Taylor McFarland. The freshman, who was playing in her first match since the death of her grandfather, dedicated her match to his memory. She had six kills and four service aces in the first game of the match. She finished with a team-high 13 kills on 30 swings. HSU cruised through the final two games. For the match HSU hit .301 as a team. HSU had its strong serve game working hitting serves deep and down and had 11 aces in the match. Melanie Wallace left the defense for the Cowgirls with 13 digs. Athena Rivas led the Lobos with eight kills. HSU improved to 14-7 on the year and to 13-1 in ASC play. Sul Ross State fell to 12-12 overall and 8-7 in conference play. HSU plays at the second ASC crossover this weekend at LeTourneau. --- HSU Athletics --- |
