MARSHALL, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's volleyball team split matches by winning two and losing two in the American Southwest Conference Crossover Tournament Friday and Saturday hosted at East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas. Friday, HSU defeated Mississippi College in three games, 30-18, 30-25, 30-20 and lost to host East Texas Baptist in four games, 22-30, 30-27, 24-30, and 25-30. Against MC, freshman Jenny Brawner led the Cowgirl offense with 18 kills while senior Terri Guajardo had 15. Freshman Rebecca Delgado led with 12 digs while Brawner recorded six total blocks in the three game win. In the match against ETBU, Brawner led the team in four games with 20 kills and four total blocks. Freshman Megan Donohue led the team with four service aces while Delgado led with 14 digs. The second day of the tournament, the Cowgirls defeated LeTourneau in four games, 30-12, 30-26, 28-30 and 30-24 and fell to Austin College in four games, 30-21, 15-30, 24-30, and 18-30. Against LeTourneau, Brawner led with 24 kills while Guajardo had 12. Junior setter Kasey Ridings recorded 28 assists. Guajardo led with 18 digs while senior Casey Dowdy had three total blocks. In the last match of the tournament against AC, Brawner led with 15 kills and five total blocks. Guajardo led with 22 digs while Delgado recorded four service aces. Brawner recorded 77 kills and 18 total blocks in HSU's four matches at the tournament and Delgado had 58 digs this weekend. HSU drops to 7-4 in ASC play and 13-10 overall. The Cowgirls return to action Thursday when they host Texas Lutheran at 8 p.m. at the Mabee Complex. |
