ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons went into its match shorthanded, with setter Lizzie Tomas out with an illness, and Sul Ross State took advantage dropping the Cowgirls 30-27, 30-19, 30-22 in American Southwest Conference volleyball action at the Mabee Complex in Abilene. The Cowgirls offensive attack was led by freshman Chelsea Buetow's 10 kills. She also added 13 digs. Melanie Wallace led the defense with 21 digs. Wallace played libero for the first time this season. Sul Ross State was led by Athena Rivas' 16 kills. Claudia Gallego had 19 digs and 38 assists to lead the defense. Hardin-Simmons fell to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State improved to 14-7 overall and 8-3. HSU will play Austin College (11 a.m.) and UT-Dallas (1:30) in the ASC Crossover at McMurry on Saturday. |
