Cowgirls Fall in Five

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking five-game match 30-24, 21-30, 33-31, 29-31, 15-8 to American Southwest Conference rival Howard Payne Monday evening in action at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls held lost the first game 30-24 and bounced right back with a commanding win in game two. Game three was going the Cowgirls way with a 29-22 lead, before Howard Payne roared back to tie it at 29 and eventually win 33-31. HSU won a hard-fought fourth game and then Hoawrd Payne came on strong in the fifth game for the win.

Chelsea Beutow led the Cowgirl attack with 19 kills and added 18 digs. Maggie Barnhill had 17 kills and Virgina Aguilar added 14 kills. The defense was led by Kerra LeBlanc's school-record 41 digs.

Howard Payne had a balanced offense attack with five players reaching double digits in kills. Seven Jackets reached double figures in digs.

The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Cowgirls and dropped them to 6-8 overall and 3-5 in ASC play. Howard Payne improved to 4-13 overall and 3-6 in ASC action. Two of the wins have come in five-gamers against the Cowgirls.
