Sept. 26, 2003 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team won its first match of the season with a thrilling five-set affair at the Mabee Complex over Schreiner, Friday evening in Abilene. The Cowgirls jumped out to a 2-1 lead before Schreiner won the fourth game with a late rally 31-29. After falling behind, 9-6 the Cowgirls rolled off five straight points in the deciding fifth-set. HSU won 30-23, 25-30, 30-20, 29-31, 15-11. The Cowgirls were led by Maggie Barnhill's 10 kills. Kerra LeBlanc had 11 digs in her first game as the Cowgirls' libero. Barnhill also added 11 blocks, four solo and 11 assists. HSU improved to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in league play. Schreiner fell to 5-8 and 1-2. HSU hosts conference-leader Texas Lutheran, Saturday at 11 a.m. |
