ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team moved to 4-0 in American Southwest conference play with a 30-25, 30-22, 30-32, 30-18 win over Schreiner, Friday night at the Mabee Complex. In game one, the Cowgirls came out strong and were never really threatened. The Cowgirls used a 10-1 run in the middle of the second game to put the game away and take a 2-0 lead. The third game was tied at 19-19 before HSU rolled off four straight points with some strong defense on the serve of Gracen Harris. The Cowgirls pushed the lead to 27-23, before Schreiner rolled off six straight points to take a 29-27 lead. Cambra Hughes came up with back-to-back kills to fight off game point. Amanda Mace then served an ace to give the Cowgirls a 30-29 lead. Schreiner then won the final three points to win the game, they benefited from a nice kick dig to fight off match point. HSU jumped to an early lead in game four and never looked back to seal the win. Parnell led the Cowgirls with 19 kills and Cambra Hughes added 16. Amanda Mace had 11 kills and a career-best 29 digs. Sam Lucien also had 24 digs for the Cowgirls. Tiffany Miller led Schreiner with 12 kills. Hardin-Simmons is now 7-4 on the year and has won four straight matches to start ASC play. Schreiner fell to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in league action. HSU will play defending ASC West champion Texas Lutheran at 11 a.m. at the Mabee Complex on Saturday. |
