Cowgirls Drop Pair in Alpine

ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, Friday afternoon in Alpine. The Cowgirls lost 30-22, 30-21, 19-30, 28-30, 15-8 in the American Southwest Conferencce match with Sul Ross State and fell 30-26, 29-31, 30-18, 30-13 to the College of the Southwest.

In the opener the Cowgirls battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth game but were unable to fight off the Lobos in the fifth game. Terri Guajardo and Jenny Brawner each had 11 kills to lead the Cowgirl attack.

Guajardo and Rebecca Delgado added 15 digs each and Brittoni Reynolds had 12. Casey Dowdy had 10 kills in the match. Sul Ross improved to 4-7 and 2-3 with the win.

In the nightcap the Cowgirls lost a close first set 30-26, before squaring the match at 1-1 with a 31-29 win in set two. The Lady Mustangs (7-7) closed out the match with 30-18 and 30-13 wins.

HSU (8-5, 2-1) returns to action Thursday when it hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Complex in a ASC match.
