Cowgirls Sweep Jackets, 3-0

Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team evened its record at 3-3 and moved to 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play with a 30-19, 30-25, 31-29 win over Howard Payne, Wednesday night at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls rolled through the first game with just one hitting error and hit .435 as a team. The second game the Cowgirls pulled away after it was tied at 20-20 and the third match the Cowboys' fought off a game point from the Lady Jackets and came back with three straight points for the win.

Virginia Aguilar had another solid match for the Cowgirls, hitting .417 with 11 kills in 24 swings. She also led the team with four blocks. Defensively, Melanie Wallace led the way with 16 digs.

Holly Amerena led the offense with 30 assists. Howard Payne was fueled by Destiny Barry's 10 kills.

HSU returns to action Friday evening at UT-Permian Basin. Howard Payne fell to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in ASC West play. HSU returns to conference action on Sept. 20 at crosstown rival McMurry.
