Cowgirls Lose To HPU in Five

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team fell to 0-2 in American Southwest Conference action with a five-set loss to rival Howard Payne, 20-30, 30-25, 23-30, 30-15, 15-8, Tuesday night in Brownwood.

Five Cowgirls recorded double figures in kills, led by Megan Lawrence with 16 and freshman Melanie Wallace with 14. Virginia Aguilar and Lizzie Tomas had 12 each and Ali Childers chipped in 10. Wallace, Aguilar and Kerra LeBlanc each had 15 digs for the Cowgirls.

HSU was in front two-games-to-one before the Yellowjackets won game four 30-15 and then won game five 15-8. Sandra Fish led the Yellowjackets with 13 kills and 16 digs.

The Cowgirls fell to 2-2, 0-2 on the year. Howard Payne improved to 2-7, 1-2.

HSU returns to action on Friday in the McMurry Invitational.
