ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped a tough four-set match to American Southwest Conference-rival Howard Payne, 30-18, 30-24, 23-30, 30-23, Tuesday night in its conference opener at the Mabee Complex in Abilene, Texas. The Cowgirls fell behind two games to none before winning the third game and having the fourth game tied at 21-21 before falling. The Cowgirls trailed 19-11, when freshman Shelby Black took serve and HSU rallied for eight straight points to tie it at 19. Maggie Barnhill had 10 kills and Elya Steed had 10 digs. Kristen Shaw led the Yellowjackets with 14 kills. Hardin-Simmons fell to 0-8 overall and0-1 in conference action and HPU improved to 3-4 and 1-1 in ASC play. HSU returns to action Sept. 23 when it hosts crosstown-rival McMurry. |
