SHERMAN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the first day of the Austin College Invitational in Sherman, Texas.

The Cowgirls lost their opener to Lyon College, 30-28, 30-24, 30-18 and fell to UT-Tyler 30-24, 30-18, 20-30 and 30-21 in the nightcap. The Cowgirls won their first game of the season in the four-set loss to UT-Tyler.

Freshman Ali Childers led the Cowgirls with five kills against Lyon College. Kerra LeBlanc had a team-best 11 digs.

In the match with UT-Tyler Maggie Barnhill had 12 kills and five digs, freshman Virginia Aguilar had seven blocks and Tanner Ellison has four service aces.

HSU fell to 0-5 with the losses.

The Cowgirls play Host Austin College at 11 a.m. on Saturday and close out the classic with an 1 p.m. match against McPherson College (Kan.)
