April 17, 2004
CLINTON, Miss. - The Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls dominated Mississippi College 7-0 to win the 2004 American Southwest Conference Tennis Championship. The Cowgirls, ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA West Regional tennis poll, took control of the match early winning all three doubles points 8-1, 8-0, and 8-1. In singles, the Cowgirls won all four matches in straight sets before the remaining matches were suspended. The Cowgirls refused to name a single Most Valuable Player. They have referred to themselves as an "Army of Six" all season and decided to accept the award as a team rather than an individual. Making the All-Tournament team for the Cowgirls was Nancy Chandler, Bobbye Thompson, and Sarah Bartlett. Joining them on the All-Tournament team was Holli Adams and Ashley Diaz of Mississippi College, Lauren Collings of UT-Tyler, and Lindsey Hoffman of Mary Hardin-Baylor. |
