ABILENE, Texas - The Cowgirls tennis team had solid play this past weekend defeating two ASC teams and falling in a close match to Trinity University.

HSU showed solid doubles play against Trinity, Friday afternoon in San Antonio. The Cowgirls went up 2-1 after doubles with wins from the No.1 duo of Nancy Chandler and Allison Baker who defeated McGowen and Austin 8-6. The other win came from No.3 duo of Bobbye Thompson and McKenzie Swindle who defeated Mendillo and Suarez 8-1. Unfortunately the Cowgirls could not hang on to its lead as they only picked up one more win, which came from Bobbye Thompson who defeated Abby Ulrich 2-6, 7-6(22-20), 10-8. The Cowgirls fell 6-3.

The Cowgirls then picked up an easy win against Schreiner University Saturday morning, defeating them 9-0. The women came out strong winning all three doubles matches. From that point there was nothing stopping the Cowgirls as they clinched the match.

HSU then hosted Texas Lutheran later that afternoon. TLU gave HSU a little scare but the Cowgirls soon took the lead and never looked back. The No.1 duo of Nancy Chandler and Allison Baker played a tough match against TLU's Allison Wright and Angela Bryant winning 9-8. HSU then had big singles matches from No.2 Stephanie Haynes who defeated Angela Bryant 6-2, 7-5 and Sarah Bartlett who defeated Jessica James 6-1, 6-1.

HSU clinched the American Southwest Conference West Division this past weekend. The Cowgirls will return to action April 25-26th as they host the ASC Tournament. The women will attempt to defend their title for the third consecutive year. Times will be announced at a later date.
