BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Cowgirl tennis team is now 5-0 in the American Southwest Conference West Division, after defeating Howard Payne and Mary-Hardin Baylor on Saturday.

The Cowgirls took an early 3-0 lead going into singles against Howard Payne. HSU then clinched with wins from No.5 Sarah Bartlett defeating Betsy Zhu 6-0, 6-1. The other win came from No.2 Stephanie Haynes defeating Leslie Patterson 6-4, 6-1. The Cowgirls finished the match winning 9-0.

HSU then traveled to Temple to take on Mary-Hardin Baylor. The women again came out strong with three wins in doubles. The Cowgirls saw strong play from junior Nancy Chandler who defeated Lindsey Hoffman, who is ranked 16th in the region, 6-1, 6-4. Another big win came from senior Candace Hanes, who played at the No.2 spot, defeating BreAnn Wickliffe in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. HSU finished the match winning 9-0.

The Cowgirls are now 11-4 overall. HSU will resume play Friday afternoon with a regional match-up against Trinity University in San Antonio. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. HSU will then host its last home match before the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Saturday with Schrenier at 9 a.m. and Texas Lutheran at 1:30p.m.
