CLAREMONT, California - The HSU women's tennis team traveled to California this past weekend to compete against other top ranked teams. The Cowgirls went 1-2, which gives them an 8-4 record.

The Cowgirls faced California Occidental in a warm-up match Thursday afternoon. The Cowgirls went 2-1 after the doubles and let nothing stop them to as they went on to win 8-1.

On Friday the Cowgirls matched up against No.4 regionally ranked University of The Redlands. The Cowgirls came away from the doubles matches with only one win, which came from the freshman duo of Allison Baker and McKenzie Swindle. HSU then battled in singles but came up short only winning two matches. Sophomore Stephanie Haynes battled with Molly Shih to take the win 6-3, 1-6, 10-5. The other win came from freshman McKenzie Swindle as she defeated Kerri Hatfield 6-2, 6-3.

The last match for the HSU women was against No.2 regionally ranked Pomona-Pitzer. HSU came out swinging winning two of the three doubles matches, with wins from the duos of Allison Baker and Nancy Chandler, along with McKenzie Swindle and Bobbye Thompson. The Cowgirls then began singles play with a quick win from freshman Allison Baker, but soon fell to Pomona-Pitzer 4-5. The other singles win came from McKenzie Swindle.

The Cowgirls are hoping for move in rankings after this weekends results. If the Cowgirls were to move up a spot in the rankings, it would better their chances for competing in the NCAA Division III national tournament in May. HSU will return to play in two weeks, March 22, when they will travel to Alpine, Texas to take on Sul Ross State University for an ASC match. Match play will begin at 9:00a.m.
