ABILENE, Texas - The HSU women's tennis team begins American Southwest Conference play this weekend. Play will begin Friday at noon with a warm-up match against Division II Western New Mexico. Then the Cowgirls will start conference play with Concordia at 4:00p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played at HSU, but depending on the weather, the matches might be played at Fairway Oaks Country Club. On Saturday the Cowgirls will begin at 9:00a.m with an ASC match up against McMurry. Then at noon HSU will take on rival Southwestern at the HSU courts. Finishing off the weekend the Cowgirls will take on Howard Payne at 5:00p.m at Fairway Oaks Country Club. The Cowgirls have high expectations with this year's team. The Cowgirls look to dominate the ASC this season, with strong doubles and singles. The doubles are led by juniors Bobbye Thompson and Nancy Chandler. Freshman Allison Baker and McKenzie Swindle at No.2, and senior Candace Hanes and sophomore Stephanie Haynes at the No. 3 spot. Junior Sarah Bartlett and freshman Annagrace Fincher play the No. 4 doubles spot. HSU is aiming for their third consecutive ASC conference title. They are also striving for an invitation to the NCAA National Tournament in May. |
