Cowgirls Look Sharp in Opener

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's tennis team opened its season with an 8-1 win over Temple College, Tuesday afternoon at the Streich Tennis Center.

McKenzie Swindle, Hazel de la Torre and Sarah Bolin all three went undefeated for the day, winning in both singles and doubles. Swindle teamed with Stephanie Haynes to win at No. 1 doubles. Temple defaulted at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

The Cowgirls did not lose a set in the four singles matches that it won on the court. The win was the first for HSU head coach Shane Williford at HSU.

The match counts as an official date of competition, but matches against junior colleges will not count for the overall team record.

Hardin-Simmons 8, Temple 1 Singles 1 - Anne Debert (TC) def. Stephanie Haynes, 6-3, 6-4 2 - McKenzie Swindle (HSU) def. Laine Ballew, 6-1, 6-2 3 - Hazel de la Torre (HSU) def. Shelly Homstrom, 6-0, 6-3 4 - Caroline Scott (HSU) def. Heather Maust, 6-0, 6-1 5 - Sarah Bolin (HSU) def. Krystal Meyers, 6-1, 6-0 6 - Tracy Hennington (HSU) won by default.

Doubles 1 - Haynes/Swindle def. Debert/Ballew, 8-3 2 - Bolin/Hennington def. Holmstrom/Maust, 8-1 3 - Scott/De la Torre won by default.
