ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball split an American Southwest Conference doubleheader with Texas Lutheran Friday afternoon at Cowgirl Field, winning the first game 1-0 and falling 4-1 in the nightcap.

In the first game Arin Spence allowed just one hit and struck out 14 to improve to 16-3 on the year. Nicole Cortez drove in Katy Chester in the fifth inning for the only run of the game.

In the nightcap, TLU scored three runs in the first inning and added a single run in the fifth. HSU scored its lone run in the second inning on a Chester single.

HSU is no 25-6 on the year and 18-4 in ASC play. Texas Lutheran is now 16-12 on the year and 12-6 in league play. The two teams will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Cowgirl Field.
