Cowgirls Sweep Tornados

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team completed a four-game sweep of Concordia-Austin with a dramatic walk off grand slam in the first game of the doubleheader to win 6-3 and a win in the nightcap 3-1 to close out its season Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Field.

The Cowgirls trailed 3-2 going into the seventh inning of the first game when Mia Lopez singles, Miranda Rousett reached on an error, Cassie Elder walked and Ember Strand hit a walk off grand slam to make the Cowgirls victorious.

HSU scored a run in the first and sixth innings and Brandi Wicker held the Tornados at bay. She finished her career with a win to improve to 5-14 on the mound. She was the Cowgirls' lone senior in their inagural campaign.

In game two the Cowgirls scored a pair of runs in the second and added another in the sixth to win 3-1. In the second Amber Pierce led off with a walk moved to second on a ground out, Wicker was hit by a pitch, Jessica Rieger reached on an error to score Pierce and Wicker scored on an error.

In the sixth, Wicker led off with a single, moved up on a passed ball and scored on a Mia Lopez single. Keri Ivey got the win for the Cowgirls on the mound pitching a one-hitter. and allowing no earned runs, while striking out five.

HSU closed its season with four straight wins to improve to 10-27-1 overall and 7-19-1 in ASC West play. Concordia fell to 5-31 and 4-23 in ASC West play.
