April 14, 2004
ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader against Howard Payne, 10-2, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon in action at Cowgirl Field. The Cowgirls fell to 6-25-1 with the loss and to 3-19-1 in ASC play. The Lady Jackets improved to 16-10 overall and 14-8 in ASC play. The game was a makeup from an earlier rainout this season. In the first game, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 2-0 lead on three errors by the Lady Jackets in the bottom of the first inning. Jessica Stover had both RBIs for the Cowgirls and Ember Strand had a pair of hits. Brandi Wicker took the loss for the Cowgirls, despite only allowing five earned runs. In game two, Ashley Lang had three hits for the Cowgirls and Amber Pierce added the only RBI of the game for HSU with a sacrifice fly. The Cowgirls loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but were unable to plate a run, which ended the game. Keri Ivey took the loss on the mound. Howard Payne shortstop Amanda Bludworth had a spectacular day for the Lady Jackets, going 8-for-8 at the plate and made nine plays in both games in the field. She was 4-for-4 with four RBIs in game one and 4-for-4 in game two. Hardin-Simmons will return to action Saturday at noon when it hosts Texas Wesleyan in a recently added doubleheader. That doubleheader will replace the originally scheduled twinbill with the University of Dallas. --- HSU ATHLETICS --- |
