SEGUIN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team dropped the first game of doubleheader 5-0 and then tied the second game 2-2 in American Southwest Conference West Division action Saturday afternoon in Seguin. The Cowgirls could not solve likely ASC West pitcher of the year Amanda Stevens as she three-hit the Cowgirls with six strikeouts. She allowed only five hits and no runs in 14 innings in the series against the Cowgirls. Ember Strand, Ashley Lang and Tawna Jacobs each had singles for the Cowgirls. Brandi Wicker pitched solid only allowing one earned run over six innings. Amy Behlen had three RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs. The second game was cancelled in the seventh inning due to lightning, hail and rain. The Cowgirls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Cassie Elder got a one-out walked and moved up on a Miranda Rousett fielder's choice. Tawna Jacobs then singled in Elder to get the Cowgirls on the board. HSU added another run in the sixth inning. Keri Ivey led off with a single and moved over on a Jessica Rieger sac bunt. Wicker followed with a single and Ivey scored on a Elder single. Wicker had two hits to lead the Cowgirls and Jacobs and Elder had RBIs. Ivey only allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings on the mound. TLU responded with two runs in the sixth to tie the game, before the rains came. HSU fell to 6-23-1 overall and 3-17-1 in ASC play. TLU improved to an ASC West best 21-6-1, 17-3-1. The Cowgirls will return to action Saturday when it hosts Texas Wesleyan in a doubleheader. The originally scheduled twinbill with the University of Dallas on Friday has been cancelled. |
