Cowgirls Sweep TLU Win ASC West

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team won the American Southwest Conference West Division in just its second season of existence with a doubleheader sweep of second-place Texas Lutheran, 14-3 and 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Field.

HSU exploded for 14 runs in the first game to win 14-3 in six innings and then won a pitcher's duel with three runs in the fifth of the second game.

In the first game, Saydie Hill put the finishing touches on the game with a grand slam over the scoreboard in left field. She was 4-for-4 with six RBIs in the game. Courtney Stewart drove in three runs and had two hits and Katy Chester had two RBIs. Arin Spence took the win on the mound with six innings of work. She did not allow an earned run and struck out eight.

In the second game, the Cowgirls scored all three runs in the fifth. Emily Schlebach reached on an error and moved up on a Nicole Cortez single. Courtney Stewart singled in Schlebach. Spence and Sadyie Hill followed with back-to-back sac flies.

Spence won the game on the mound working seven innings with six strikeouts. She is 18-3 in the circle this season.

HSU is now 27-6 on the season and 20-4 in ASC play. Texas Lutheran fell to 16-14 and 12-8. The Cowgirls games with Abilene Christian on Tuesday have been cancelled. HSU will be off until April 22 when it travels to Concordia-Austin.
