Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team was going for a four-game conference sweep of Sul Ross State but fell just a few feet short as they lost to Sul Ross State, 8-5, in 10 innings of action, Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Field.

The Cowgirls had the game tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh but Brittany Henry was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a Ember Strand fly ball to right.

Neither team scored until the 10th inning when the International Tiebreaker was evoked, where each team starts an inning with a runner on second base. Sul Ross was able to get four runs out of the inning to take the win 8-5, when HSU was able to get only one runner across.

The Cowgirls got three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The first came on an RBI single by Mia Lopez. Two more runs scored on a Sul Ross State error. Tawna Jacobs knocked in Lopez in the fifth inning for the Cowgirls only other score until the tiebreaker in the 10th inning.

Brandi Wicker took the loss on the mound.

HSU fell to 6-20 overall and 3-12 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State is now 6-14 and 2-9 in league play. HSU hosts Howard Payne on Tuesday.
