ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball doubled its win total for the season with three wins over American Southwest Conference foe Sul Ross State, 5-1, 8-3, 4-0, Saturday at Cowgirl Field. The Cowgirls came one out away from ending the day on a special note as Cowgirl hurler Keri Ivey went six and two-third innings without allowing a baserunner in the nightcap. The Lobos were able to get three straight singles, but Ivey was able to get out of it for the first shutout in the Cowgirl program. In the first game of the day the Cowgirls score three runs in the third inning and Ivey was solid on the mound to garner the win. Ivey picked up her first win of the day going seven innings, scattering six hits and allowing just one run, while striking out six. For the day, Ivey was 2-0 on the mound allowing only nine hits and one run in 14 innings. She improved to 3-10 on the year in the circle for the Cowgirls. In game one, Ember Strand and Mia Lopez each had two hits for the Cowgirls and Ember Strand had a pair of RBIs. In the second game, the Cowgirls scored eight runs in the first three innings and held on for an 8-3 win. Brandi Wicker got the win on the mound for the Cowgirls. Lang, Lopez and Strand each had two hits, Lopez scored three runs and Cassie Elder and Sarah Duke had two RBIs each to lead the offense. Ivey's gem in the third game was the story. Tawna Jacobs had a two-run single and Lopez scored a run and drove in a run. Brittney Henry had two hits. HSU improved to 6-19 on the year and 3-11 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State fell to 5-14 overall and 1-9 in conference action. The two teams will conclude the series Sunday with a single game at 2 p.m. |
