Cowgirls Win 11th Straight

ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team won its 11th straight game to improve to 24-4 with a 15-1 and 6-2 American Southwest Conference doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon in Alpine.

In the first game, Nicole Cortez led off with her first of four doubles. She came around to score on a Sayie Hill double. Cortez drove in two with a double in the second Jennifer Cooper had an RBI, Katy Chester had an RBI in the third.

In the fourth, the Cowgirls added 10 runs. Spence had a two run home run. Emily Schlebach had an RBI single, Cortez doubled in two runs, Courtney Stewart had a two-run triple, Spence added a second-two run homer in the inning to cap the scoring.

Kati Winkler took the win on the mound for the Cowgirls with a three-hitter. Cortez had four doubles, drove in four and scored three runs. Spence had two home runs and four RBIs.

In the second game, Hill had two RBIs and two hits, Spence drove in two runs and Cooper and Stewart each had an RBI. Hill had a two run home run. Sarah Lemons earned the win on the mound.

Hardin-Simmons is 24-4 on the year and are now 17-3 in league play. Sul Ross State fell to 1-21 overall and 1-13 in league play. HSU will play Abilene Christian at 5:30 on Tuesday. That game is a late addition to the schedule.
