SEGUIN, Texas - For the second straight day, Hardin-Simmons rolled in the first game of its doubleheader against Texas Lutheran and dropped a close second game in American Southwest Conference action Saturday in Seguin, HSU won the first game 10-1 in six innings and lost 4-2 in the nightcap. In the first game of the day, the Cowgirls pounded out 16 hits in a 10-1 run-rule win. HSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Sadye Hill had an RBI double, Lydia Bradley a two-run double and HSU scored on an error in the inning. Hill led off the third inning with her 30th career home run, which tied her for the career-record in the American Southwest Conference. HSU added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Heather Cobb. HSU scored an unearned run in the fifth. In the sixth inning, the Cowgirls scored two runs on six Hits. Cobb had a two-run double in the inning. Hill had three hits for the Cowgirls and Cobb, Courtney Clark, Cricket Criner, Brittany Hall and Bradley all had two hits each. Laura Rawlings went five innings to earn the win in the circle. She allowed only one unearned run in the game, while scattering five hits. In the nightcap, the Cowgirls scored two runs in the first inning, but could not score the rest of the way. HSU scored on two hits and three TLU errors. TLU scored a run in the first, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Laura Rawlings (10-3) took the loss for the Cowgirls as she allowed three runs (two earned) in three and one-third innings of work. Lacie Cole closed out the game. HSU is now 14-8 on the year and 8-4 in league play. Texas Lutheran is now 10-12 overall and 5-3 in ASC action. The Cowgirls will host the third-ranked NAIA team in the nation, Lubbock Christian, on Wednesday. |
