Spence Helps Cowgirls Push Streak To Six

ABILENE, Texas - Arin Spence had a huge day both at the plate in the circle to propel the Hardin-Simmons softball team to a pair of American Southwest Conference wins over Sul Ross State, 8-4, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Cowgirl Field.

Spence pitched nine and two-third innings on the day and did not allow a run and only one hit while striking out 11. In the second game she hit a game -tying home run in the sixth inning and had a walk off single in the seventh. She was 4-for-4 in the second game at the plate to fuel the Cowgirls offensive effort.

In the first game, Cricket Criner, Katy Chester, Lydia Bradley and Courntey Stewart each had a pair of hits to pace a 11-hit attack. The Cowgirls took advantage of five Lady Lobo errors. Spence earned the win and Megan Murrey earned the save for HSU.

In the second game, Sul Ross State scored two first inning runs on Murrey and Spence came on in the first and allowed only one hit the rest of the game, striking out seven.

The wins give the Cowgirls a six-game winning streak and moves them to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the ASC West. Sul Ross State fell to 2-14 on the year and 1-7 in ASC West play.

The Cowgirls will host Schreiner on Tuesday at Cowgirls Field.
