Cowgirls Run Rule Shcreiner Twice

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team won its seventh straight game with a doubleheader sweep of Schreiner, 12-0 and 8-0, in American Southwest Conference action at Cowgirl Field on Friday afternoon.

Both games ended in five-inning run-rules. HSU improved to 20-4 overall and 13-3 in league play. Schreiner fell to 3-17 overall and 3-9 in league play.

In the first game, Arin Spence (14-2) threw her third no-hitter of the season. She struck out eight in five innings of work and only allowed two baserunners.

The Cowgirls got all of the runs they needed in the second inning when they plated seven runs. Lydia Bradley led off with a single, Miranda Rousset walked, Jennifer Cooper had an RBI single and Emily Schlebach singled. Nicole Cortez had a two-run double to left center. Courtney Stewart then walked and Arin Spence hit a sacrifice fly to right that was dropped for an error. Sadyie Hill had a two-run single. Spence stole home to give the Cowgirls the seven runs.

In the fourth HSU tacked on five more runs. Mia Lopez had a one-out walk and then Hill tripled down the line in right. Bradley reached on an error, scoring Hill. Rousset walked and Cooper singled to left scoring Bradley. Katy Winkler then had a two-run single to center.

Hill and Cooper led the offense with two hits each. Hill also had three RBIs.

In the second game, HSU scored three runs in the first inning. Cortez, Stewart, Spence and Hill led off with consecutive singles. Spence and Hill's each drove in a run and Spence eventually scored on a wild pitch.

HSU added two runs in the second when Katy Chester singled to left center and moved to third on a Nicole Cortez single. Sadyie Hill had a two-run singled to center to drive in Cortez and Stewart, after Chester was cut down on a fielder's choice.

The Cowgirls added three more in the third inning when Chester doubled with two outs and Emily Schlebach singled. Cortez followed with an RBI single and Stewart singled to right scoring Chester, a misguided throw allowed Cortez to score all the way from first.

Sarah Lemons got the win for the Cowgirls. She gave up just three hits in the complete game win. Cortez and Stewart had three hits each and Hill had two hits and drove in three runs.
