Cowgirls Sweep Again

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball continued to put up big offensive numbers as it run-ruled Schreiner in a pair of American Southwest Conference games, 12-1 and 10-1, at Cowgirl Field in Abilene.

Arin Spence moved to 13-2 on the mound with a win. She allowed one run in the first inning and then shut the Mountaineers down.

Nicole Cortez led off the game with a single and stole second and scored on a Spence triple. Sadyie Hill then followed with a two-run home run to make it 3-1 after one inning.

In the third, Hill walked with two outs, Lydia Bradley doubled to left center and Miranda Rousset walked to load the bases for Jennifer Cooper, who brought them all three in with a double. Katy Chester followed with an RBI double to score Cooper.

HSU added five more runs in the fourth. Cortez led off with a triple to center, Courtney Stewart reached on an error bringing in Cortez. Spence walked and Hill followed with an RBI single to center. Bradley had an RBI single and Cooper brought in two runs with a sacrifice fly deep into the gap.

Hill was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Cooper had five RBIs in the game. Tara Edwards had two of Schreiner's three hits.

It was more of the same in the nightcap as the Cowgirls scored five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.

Spence and Cortez each had two hits and two RBIs. Spence had a home run. Megan Murrey improved to 4-1 on the mound for the Cowgirls. Amanda Ozuna and Krystle Martinez had two hits each for Schreiner.

HSU is now 18-4 overall and 11-3 in ASC action. Schreiner fell to 3-15 and 3-7. The two will play an 11 a.m.
