ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team made quick work of Sul Ross State, earning 9-0 and 7-0 wins in a American Southwest Conference doubleheader that lasted a little over three hours at Ellis Field on Saturday. In the first game the Cowgirls scored a single run in the second inning on a Lacie Cole sacrifice fly. In the third inning HSU opened up the game with five runs Sadye Hill hit a two-run home run, Lydia Bradley had an RBI double, Laura Rawlings and RBI single and Cole had an RBI single in the inning. Courtney Clark led off the fourth with a solo home run and then Hill had a one-out solo shot that hit the scoreboard in left field. It was Hill's 29th career home run, one shy of the ASC record for a career. Laura Rawlings (8-2) earned the win as she scattered seven hits and struck out four. Kalyn Rosser threw one scoreless inning. Rawlings aided her own cause with three hits. Hill, Clark and Bradley added two hits each. In the second game, HSU put up four runs in the second inning. Bradley had an RBI double, Brittany Hall had an RBI single, Rosser had an RBI fielder's choice and Clark had a sacrifice fly. It remained 4-0 until HSU put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bradley had a two-run double in the inning and Hall had a sacrifice fly. Lacie Cole earned the win in the circle, by scattering four hits in five innings of relief. Bradley had three doubles in the game and drove in three and Brittany Hall had two RBIs. HSU played some solid defense in the game, including a rare double play. The Cowgirls had a .495 batting average, did not commit an error and had a 0.64 team era in the four game series sweep. HSU is now 12-6 on the year and 6-2 in ASC West action. Sul Ross State fell to 2-16 overall and 1-7 in league play. HSU plays at Texas Lutheran next weekend. |
