Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader from Sul Ross State, 19-1 and 13-1, Thursday afternoon at Ellis Field in Abilene. Both games ended in run-rules.

In the first game the Cowgirls came out swinging and led 19-1 after three innings of play. HSU scored 11 runs in the second inning. Courtney Clark led off the game with a walk and stole second base and scored on an infield single from second. Cricket Criner added an RBI double and Lydia Bradley had an RBI single in the first.

In the second inning the Cowgirls scored 11 runs on six hits and three errors. Sadye Hill had an RBI single, Criner had a two-run home run and Clark had a three-run home run. Clark added another three-run shot in the third and Lacie Cole had an RBI single and Hill an RBI double.

Laura Rawlings earned the win as she struck out five in three innings. Lacie Cole worked two scoreless innings in relief. Clark had two hits, scored four runs and drove in six. Criner, Hill, Bradley and Heather Cobb each had two hits for the Cowgirls. Kara Lick took the loss for Sul Ross State.

In the second game, Sul Ross State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a home run by Christa Carrasco. HSU answered with two runs in the first on a Bradley RBI single and an error that allowed the first run to score.

In the second inning HSU added three runs on a pair of sacrifice flies by Cobb and Hill and an RBI single by Bradley. Hill hit a three-run home run in the third to make the score 8-1. Bradley homered to lead off the fourth and Clark had a two-run double and Cobb added an RBI single.

Rawlings went four innings for the win, striking out eight while allowing only three hits. Clark. Hill and Bradley had three hits each and Hill drove in five runs.

HSU is now 10-6 on the year and 4-2 in ASC West play. Sul Ross State fell to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in conference action. The two teams will play a 10 a.m. doubleheader on Friday.
