Final Stats

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons and Mary Hardin-Baylor split an American Southwest Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Belton, UMHB won the first game 7-0 and HSU won 4-1 in the nightcap. Hardin-Simmons is 14-4 overall and 7-3 in the ASC. The Crusaders are now 8-9 overall this season and have a 5-7 mark in league play. UMHB broke open a pitcher's duel with a six-run fifth inning to cruise to a 7-0 game one victory. HSU ace Arin Spence held the Crusaders in check before Kacie Kripner opened the scoring with an RBI double. Amanda Weckwerth reached on an error to get the second run home before Jennifer Pietrowski followed with a two-run double to make it 4-0. Ashley Salazar walked with the bases loaded to get another run home and the final run scored on a throwing error. UMHB added an insurance run on Danielle Thomas' solo home run. Lindsey Liles threw a complete-game, one-hitter for UMHB to improve to 2-2 on the season. Spence took her second straight loss against the Crusaders to fall to 11-2 on the year. Thomas was 2-2 for UMHB and Sandra Hernandez also had two hits. Katy Chester's single in the top of the second was the only hit for the Cowgirls. HSU took control of game two with a three-run third inning and waited out a 51-minute lightning delay to hold off a UMHB rally for a 4-1 win. Chester's bases loaded walk in the top of the second game the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead. UMHB answered on Hernandez's RBI double in the bottom of the second. Sadye Hill doubled home two runs in the top of the third and scored on an error to make it 4-1.The Crusaders loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth before Spence came on to get a strikeout and end the threat. The game was called after six innings because of darkness. Megan Murrey got the win for HSU to raise her record to 3-1. Spence nailed down her first save of the year. Jackilyn Michel took the loss for UMHB to fall to 3-3. Hill was 2-3 for HSU with two RBI.
