ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' softball team fought hard, but a seven-run sixth inning in the second game by Mary Hardin-Baylor led to a Crusader sweep 13-3, 9-6 Friday afternoon at Cowgirl Field in the ASC West opener for the Cowgirls. HSU fell behind in the first game and could never recover falling 13-3.Miranda Rousett led the Cowgirl offense with two hits and two RBIs. Mia Lopez added a pair of hits. The Cowgirl defense committed seven errors as Brandi Wicker fell to 2-4 on the year. Jennifer Pietrowski led UMHB with four hits in five trips, including a double, a home run and three RBIs. In the second game, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 6-2 lead after five innings, but the Crusaders battled back with a seven-run sixth to comeback for the victory. Ashley Lang led the offense with two hits and an HSU record four RBIs. Pietrowski had three hits and two RBIs for the Crusaders. HSU fell to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in ASC West action. UMHB improved to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in ASC lay. The two will play a noon doubleheader on Saturday. |
