Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Arin Spence threw a no-hitter at Howard Payne and then came back to shut down the Yellowjackets on one-hit through six innings in the second game as HSU swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at Cowgirl Field, 11-0 and 4-2, Tuesday afternoon in Abilene.

Spence threw her second no-hitter in less than a week as she threw a perfect game at Nebraska Wesleyan last Friday. She walked one and one batter reached on an error in the 10-run rule win. Spence also added two hits at the plate, scored two runs and drove in one.

Emily Schlebach had three hits for the Cowgirls and Miranda Rousset hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the fourth inning and finished the first game with two hits. Sadye Hill had two hits and two RBIs and Jennifer Cooper added a pair of hits and drove in a run.

In the nightcap, Spence got the Cowgirls off to a good start with a two-run home run in the first inning. Rousset added her sixth home run of the season in the second to make it 3-0. In the seventh Spence had a triple to right and scored on a Hill sacrifice fly.

Spence (10-0) threw six innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts in the second game. Megan Murrey came on in the seventh to finish the game and allowed a two-run home run to Cory Lee for Howard Payne, but went unscathed after that.

HSU has won six straight games and is now 12-2 overall and 5-1 in ASC play. Howard Payne fell to 4-12, 2-4. HSU will play at Mary Hardin-Baylor in a four-game set starting Friday.
