Schedule/Results | Roster | News | Archives Cowgirls Sweep Northwood
March 1, 2005 Nicole Cortez had the game-winning single in the first game and leadoff the second game with a home run as the Hardin-Simmons softball team moved to 3-1 on the season with a sweep of Northwood University 1-0 and 4-2, Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Hill, Texas. In the first game, Casey Winterroth had a pinch-hit double in the seventh inning and Cortez drove in Courtney Stewart who was running for Winterroth with a single as the Cowgirls scored the lone run of the game in the seventh. Arin Spence moved to 2-0 on the season as she allowed only three hits to pick up her second complete-game shutout in as many outings on the season. She has allowed just four hits in 13 innings of work. In the nightcap, Cortez led off with a home run and the Cowgirls scored two runs in the first, one in the third and one in the fourth. Northwood picked up its only two runs in the third inning off of Meagan Murrey, but the freshman hurler settled down and pitched five innings to earn the win. Sarah Lemons pitched the final two innings of the game for her first save. Freshman Sadye Hill was 3-for-3 for the Cowgirls at the plate and Winterroth had another pinch-hit in the game. Northwood fell to 5-7 with the two losses. HSU returns to action at the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Tournament, Friday and Saturday in Farmer's Branch.
