Feb. 25, 2005 Hardin-Simmons' softball team split a Friday night doubleheader with Trinity, winning 12-0 in the opener, before falling 3-1 in the second game. Trinity (4-2) allowed three runs in the first three innings of the opener, but a six-run sixth inning broke open the game for the Cowgirls. In game two, Hardin-Simmons scored a run in the second to take the lead, but the Tigers answered with a two-run second inning. Trinity's Erin Mulvey (3-0) struck out a career-high 11 hitters in the second game, giving up just one unearned run on three hits. In game one Hardin-Simmons' pitcher Arin Spence threw a one-hit complete-game shutout in her debut as a Cowgirl. Trinity's Jillian Degerness (1-2) gave up four earned runs and seven hits through six innings of work, but seven Tiger errors allowed eight unearned runs to score. Degerness struck out five hitters in the game. Jennifer Cooper was 3-3 with two runs and three RBI for the Cowgirls in game one. HSU is now 1-1 on the year and plays Northwood in San Antonio in a doubleheader on Saturday. |
