Final Stats

CEDAR HILL, Texas - It took exactly one day for Hardin-Simmons' softball team to get the first win in its program's history as they won the second game of its inaugural doubleheader, 3-2, to earn a split with Northwood on Tuesday afternoon in Cedar Hill.

HSU lost the first game 2-0, but hung tight with the NAIA school. Krystal Lovato knocked in both runs with a third-inning double. Keri Ivey took the loss on the mound for the Cowgirls.

In the second game, the Cowgirls turned it around and used some timely hitting and two big double plays on defense for the first win.

In the first inning HSU got its first ever run when they put together three singles. Miranda Rousett singled and moved to second on a Tawna Jacobs hit. Ashley Lang drove in Rousett with a shot through the infield.

The Cowgirls added two more runs in the third when they loaded the bases on three walks. Donnice Roecker and Mia Lopez made the Knights pay with RBI singles. NU was able to get a run back in the bottom of the fourth and added another in the sixth but the Cowgirls defense saved the day.

Mia Lopez ended one scoring threat when she threw out a runner from centerfield at first base for a double play. The Cowgirls then turned a routine play into a double play when Rousett threw out Brooke Patterson going to first and Jacobs fired across the diamond to Ashley Lang to cut down Jaymie Mitchell trying to take third base.

"The girls came out and were fundamentally sound," said HSU head coach Rita Jordan. "We have to be fundamental and come up with timely plays and we were able to do that today. It is a historic win for this program.

Brandi Wicker got the win on the mound for the Cowgirls in game two. Rousett, Jacobs and Lang each had two hits for the Cowgirls.
