Three Cowgirls Named All-Region

ABILENE, Texas - Coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, three Hardin-Simmons women's soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Region team and head coach Marcus Wood was named South Region Coach of the Year.

Mollie Porter was named to the first team as a defender. The senior from Austin helped lead a Cowgirl defense that only allowed five goals on the season. She was named the American Southwest Conference's Defensive Player of the Year for the third time this season.

Sophomore forward Mindi Zamora was named to the second team. She led the Cowgirls with 18 goals and 13 assists on the year.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Goold was named to the third team. The Everett, Wash. Native was among the national leaders in goals against average with a 0.30.

Wood was named the top coach in the region. He will go on the ballot for the National Coach of the Year, which will be announced at the NSCAA convention on Jan. 15.

HSU went 19-2-1 on the year and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Championships. HSU finished the year ranked seventh in the final NSCAA poll and were ranked No. 1 in the South Region's final poll.
