Nov. 3, 2004 ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' ninth-ranked women's soccer team will play host to the six-team American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, Nov. 5-7 at Shelton Stadium. The Cowgirls (16-1) go into the tournament as the favorite. HSU has won 15 straight games and went a perfect 13-0 in ASC play in the regular season to earn the right to host the event. The Cowgirls received a first-round bye. Texas-Dallas (15-3-1, 11-1-1) is the second seed and will receive the other first round bye. Third-seeded Texas Lutheran (14-4-0, 10-3-0) will play Austin College (10-7-1, 8-5-0) in the first game of the tournament at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that game will play Texas-Dallas at 1:30 on Saturday. East Texas Baptist (11-4-1, 9-3-1) and Mississippi College (13-5-0, 9-4-0) will play the second game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The winner will play Hardin-Simmons at 3:30 on Saturday. The winners of Saturday's games will play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with the American Southwest Conference title and a berth into the NCAA Championships on the line. Hardin-Simmons has won six of the eight ASC titles that have been awarded and have won four of the six ASC Tournaments. The home team has won the last five ASC Tournaments, including the Cowgirls last season. Austin College and Texas-Dallas are the only other schools to win an ASC crown. Tickets for the games will be $5 for each day or a tournament pass may be purchased for $10. ASC parent's passes will be honored and students will be admitted for free. |
