Aug. 16, 2007 LONDON - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team finished up its tour of England with a 4-0 win over Cambridge United. The Cowgirls finished the three-game tour with a record of 1-0-2. In the first two games the Cowgirls fought to scoreless ties against Fulham and West Ham United. "I am very pleased with how we played this early in the year," said HSU head coach Marcus Wood. "We played very well defensively and we are still working on some offensive concepts. It was great competition to get ready for the season." The Cowgirls dominated on defense, allowing only nine shots in the three games. Offensively, All-American forward Amy Kuykendall, Ali Baker, Becca Neal and Jordan Morley all had goals. All-American Christi Carr was solid in goal. The team took part in some training sessions with the Tottenham Futball Club. Other soccer highlights on the trip was a stadium tour of Chelsea's stadium Stamford Bridge and then watching an English Premier League Game between Fulham and Bolton. The educational side of the tour included trips to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, The Globe Theatre where Shakespeare's plays are performed, The British Museum, The Tower of London, London Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Windsor, Eton College, Cambridge University and a ride on the World Famous London Eye. The Cowgirls very much enjoyed shopping at Harrod's, Picadilly Circus, China Town, The Covent Gardens and Cambridge. The Cowgirls will arrive in Dallas late on Thursday and will begin fall practices on Monday in preparation for its season opener against Trinity on August 31. The Cowgirls were ranked fourth in the preseason D3kicks.com poll that was released on Tuesday. |
