Nov. 20, 2004 TACOMA, Wash. - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Puget Sound in the sectionals of the Division III Championship, Saturday afternoon in Tacoma, Wash. HSU ends its season with a 19-2-1 mark, which ties the school record for wins. The Loggers came out strong and had several good attempts to score in the first half, but HSU senior goalkeeper Rachel Goold was strong in goal and recorded four saves, included two of the highlight reel variety. UPS outshot the Cowgirls 9-1 in the first half. HSU came out strong in the second half and had two chances to score early in the half but one shot hit the post and Erin Williams saved another. Courtney Kjar got the Loggers on the board in the 61st minute when she striped a left footed shot from 20 yards out into the upper 90. Lea John then scored again in the 81st minute to seal the win. HSU's senior class of Goold, Mollie Porter and Katie Bergfeld finished their career's with a record of 68-11-5. Puget Sound advanced to the round of eight and will play the winner of Macalester and Washington (Mo.) on Sunday. |
