ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer team advanced to the finals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament final with a 1-0 win over Mississippi College, Friday evening in the second semifinal at Shelton Stadium on the HSU campus in Abilene. Piendak scored in the 81st minute off a rebound of a Cathy Castagnos shot that was deflected by MC goalkeeper Bethany Harris. The Cowgirls outshot MC 23-8 and on goal the Cowgirls held a 12-2 advantage. The win moved the Cowgirls to the ASC Final where it will face Texas Lutheran for the third time this season. HSU beat TLU 1-0 and 2-0 in the regular season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Rachel Goold played the game in net for the Cowgirls and recorded the shutout with two saves. Bethany Harris took the loss but was stellar with 11 saves. HSU improved to 15-3 on the year, while the Choctaws fell to 16-4-1 and will await word of an NCAA at-large berth on Sunday. |
